Enhance The Capacity and Effectiveness of SAS Committees & NAT across Medical Colleges - Area #2
As part of efforts to strengthen the capacity of NAT and SAR teams in medical colleges, an online interactive session was conducted on Area #2: Educational Program using a flipped-classroom approach, in which materials were shared before the session and the live meeting was dedicated to discussion and application.
National Evaluation Team Conducts Site Visit to Al-Ameed University College of Medicine
As part of the activities of the National Council for Accreditation of Medical Colleges in Iraq, a national evaluation team visited the Al-Ameed University College of Medicine from 15–17 February 2026 to assess the college’s progress toward achieving international standards for medical education accreditation.
NCAMC Compliance Visit: University of Kufa Faculty of Medicine
On January 12, 2026, a delegation from the National Council for Accreditation of Medical Colleges (NCAMC) carried out a field visit to the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Kufa. The purpose of the visit was to assess the institution’s ongoing progress and verify its sustained adherence to national accreditation standards.
National Assessor Training Course
Under the patronage of the Scientific Supervision and Evaluation Authority/Accreditation Department, the National Council for Accreditation of Medical Colleges conducted a basic training course to prepare a new batch of the national assessment team for the period 1-4 December 2025, virtually via the Zoom platform.
National Accreditation Visit to Al-Hamorabi College of Medicine
A national assessor team visited Al-Hamorabi College of Medicine from November 3rd to November 6th, as mandated by the ministerial order. The primary aim of this visit was to evaluate the college’s compliance with national accreditation standards.
Academic accreditation enhances higher education quality, driving national and international competitiveness.
During a panel discussion at the Higher Education Conference / Second Edition on Saturday, October 11, 2025, entitled “ Academic accreditation is a tool for improving higher education and achieving national and international competitiveness”, the President of the National Council for Accreditation of Medical Colleges (NCAMC) participated alongside senior leaders from the Scientific Supervision and Evaluation Authority / MOHESR. The session highlighted the importance of ongoing quality improvement in developing higher education programs at Iraqi universities. The NCAMC president emphasized the importance of stakeholders` opinions and suggestions in enhancing the quality of the accreditation process across all its aspects, describing them as a compass that guides the process in the right direction.
Specialized Workshop for Enhancing the Competence of the National Assessor Team
On 24–25 September 2025, the National Council for Accreditation of Medical Colleges (NCAMC), in collaboration with the College of Medicine, University of Nineveh, and under the supervision of the Supervision and Scientific Evaluation Apparatus, organized a specialized workshop entitled “Enhancing the Competence of the National Assessor Team.” The workshop aimed to strengthen the skills of national assessors, train new members, and conduct a mock field visit and site visit report (SVR) writing exercise.

On 25 September 2025, the National Council for Accreditation of Medical Colleges (NCAMC) organised a Student Peer Awareness Campaign led by the NCAMC student representative and held at the Colleges of Medicine, University of Nineveh. The campaign aimed to raise students’ understanding of the accreditation process and their vital role in ensuring quality medical education.
Meeting Stakeholders: Dean Committee and NCAMC
On July 17, 2025, the National Council for Accreditation of Medical Colleges (NCAMC) convened a focused meeting with the Dean Committee of Iraqi Medical Colleges to advance national dialogue on accreditation implementation. The discussion centered on two priority areas—supporting colleges during the post-accreditation phase and clarifying the process of eligibility for institutions preparing to enter the accreditation framework. The meeting served as a platform for collaborative input, where NCAMC leaders and medical deans exchanged practical solutions to promote consistency, transparency, and quality improvement across Iraq’s medical education landscape.
Strategic Partnership for Accreditation: National Council and Medical Association Dialogue
As part of the strategic collaboration between the National Council for Accreditation of Medical Colleges and the Iraqi Medical Association, and in alignment with the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) requirements for stakeholder engagement in accreditation processes, the Joint Committee convened its regular meeting on August 19, 2025, at the Association’s headquarters in Baghdad. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Jamal Al-Muhammadawi, First Deputy of the Iraqi Medical Association, and attended by members of the National Council alongside representatives from key health and academic institutions.
NCAMC Board Decision Meeting
On May 8, 2025, the National Council for Accreditation of Medical Colleges (NCAMC) convened a Decision Board meeting to review the outcome of the recent accreditation process and site visit report for Nineveh Medical College. This critical meeting aimed to evaluate all findings and make a final decision regarding the accreditation status of the institution.The NCAMC remains committed to upholding high standards in medical education across the region, ensuring that all accredited institutions meet the rigorous requirements essential for producing competent medical professionals. The decision will reflect the council`s dedication to fostering quality education, improving healthcare systems, and supporting the development of future medical leaders.Further details about the accreditation decision will be announced soon.
NCAMC Representative Participates in WFME Executive Council Retreat on the Future of Global Medical Education Standards
Bangkok, May 2025 –The National Council for Accreditation of Medical Colleges (NCAMC) is proud to announce that its rapporteur, Dr. Nazar Haddad, participated as a representative in the WFME Executive Council Retreat titled "Shaping the Future of WFME Standards", held alongside the WFME World Conference 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand.This prestigious international retreat brought together leading figures in medical education from across the globe to engage in high-level discussions on the evolution of WFME standards, which serve as a foundation for ensuring the quality and consistency of medical training worldwide.
NCAMC Meeting
On April 24th, 2025, the National Council for Accreditation of Medical Colleges gathered for an important meeting focused on the insights and outcomes from the recent National Assessors workshop. This workshop, entitled "Enhancing the Capabilities of the National Assessors Team," aimed to equip assessors with advanced skills and knowledge necessary for their critical role in evaluating medical colleges. During the meeting, council members discussed key recommendations that emerged from the workshop, emphasising the need for improved training, collaboration, and resource allocation to elevate the standards of medical education accreditation across the nation.
NCAMC Compliance Visit: University of Baghdad, Alkindy College of Medicine
A five-member team from the National Council for Accreditation of Medical Colleges (NCAMC) and the National Assessment Team conducted a follow-up visit to Al-Kindi College of Medicine on February 9, 2026, in line with the Council’s policy of monitoring accredited colleges.
The team was led by Prof. Hilal Al-Saffar, Vice President of the NCAMC and the College`s Supervisor.
The visit was preceded by preparatory meetings, the development of a work plan, and a review of the progress report and supporting documents.
The visit program comprised five main components:
First: A meeting with key stakeholders. Second: A meeting with the self-study committees to assess the standards that had not yet been fulfilled. Third: Meetings with students and faculty members, along with surveys and focus group discussions, to verify the effectiveness of standard implementation. Fourth: Visits to clinical training facilities, including hospitals and health centers. Fifth: Visits to the college’s classrooms and laboratories.
At the end of the visit, a meeting was held with the dean and heads of departments. The team provided a brief overview of their evaluation of the college’s operations and offered recommendations to address identified weaknesses and support preparation for the second accreditation cycle. The meeting concluded with a mutual expression of appreciation for the efforts dedicated to advancing medical education in Iraq.
